Michael F. Martinez, MD, FACS
Dr. Martinez earned his medical degree in 1995 from Hahnemann University School of Medicine in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He completed a general surgery residency program in 2000 at the Guthrie Clinic of Robert Packer Hospital in Sayre, Pennsylvania. He became a diplomat of the American Board of Surgery in 2001. Dr. Martinez was re-certified in 2009 after he scored in the top 16% nationally on the general surgery re-certification examination Dr. Martinez is a fellow of the American College of Surgeons, as well as a member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal and Endoscopic Surgeons, the American Medical Association, the Pennsylvania Medical Society and the Carbon County Medical Society. He is credentialed as a level III laparoscopist by the American Society of General Surgeons.
His professional interests include the surgical treatment of breast disease, minimally invasive surgery of the gallbladder, colon and rectum, and hernia repairs. Dr. Martinez is on staff at Palmerton Hospital, Gnaden Huetten Memorial Hospital in Lehighton and St. Luke's University Hospital-Allentown and Bethlehem campus.
Dr. Martinez's personal interests include active participation in the lives of his children through coaching soccer and track. He enjoys competing in road races and triathlons. He has completed 12 marathons, including 5 Boston Marathons. He set his personal best time of 2:48:44 at the Philadelphia marathon in 2009. In 2012, Dr. Martinez completed his first full Ironman Triathlon in Lake Placid, New York. Dr. Martinez gives back to the sport through volunteerism. He has been the Medical Director for the St. Luke's Half-marathon in Allentown, PA since 2001. He is also the race director for the Blue Mountain Health System 5K and the Lehigh Gap Nature Center More or Less a 10K Trail Run.
